Try a trusted Apple device
If you are already signed in on a trusted iPhone, iPad, or Mac, open account settings and follow the password-change prompts. Apple’s current instructions explain the exact steps for each device.
Use Apple’s recovery site
If you do not have a trusted device, visit iforgot.apple.com directly and follow Apple’s identity checks. Account recovery may involve a wait while Apple verifies your request.
Do not share sign-in codes
Keep your password, device passcode, recovery key, and verification codes private. A person who asks for them to “unlock” your phone should not be trusted with your account.
Password reset versus Activation Lock
A password reset addresses access to your Apple Account. A second-hand device linked to a different account still needs its previous owner to remove it, or Apple’s support process when valid purchase documentation is available.
